Makeup Tips - How to look cool in 105° weather!
When it’s this hot, it can be daunting to wear makeup. It melts, runs, slides and feels cakey. Hot weather makeup should be as easy and effortless as throwing on a breezy sundress, so here are some of my favorite ways to keep your makeup looking fresh this summer!

1. Hydration
Drinking plenty of water is my #1 beauty recommendation. If your skin is not hydrated from the inside it will not mater how much moisturizer you put on, it will almost always look flaky and dull. A good rule to follow is to drink 5-8, eight-ounce (or between 40-64 oz) servings of pure, unfiltered water a day and you may need more depending on how active you are.
2. SPF
It’s a must any time of year, but especially in the summer months when you’re spending long hours in the hot sun. I recommend a moisturizer with an SPF built right in. A lot of moisturizers with sunscreen only offer a 15 SPF, which just isn’t strong enough. You need at least a 30 SPF and although they are harder to find, it’s well worth the trouble!
Recommended product: Aveeno Positively Radiant daily moisturizer SPF 30
3. Stop the shine
Take the time to prime your face before applying makeup. This will give makeup something to hold on to even in the heat of summer! Carry blotting papers with you at all times! It’s a quick and easy way to remove oil and shine without using powder that will only result in a cakey mess. If you must use powder, try a finishing powder. They are much lighter than normal powders and won’t leave your face feeling cakey.
Recommended products: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light, Sephora Collection Matte Blotting Papers and MAC Prep + Prime Finishing Powder
4. Try a lighter shade… of everything!
Summer is the time for light, airy and carefree makeup! Put your dark and matte shades away along with your sweaters and coats and opt for lighter, sheerer hues for eyes lips and cheeks!
Recommended products: Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, TARTE Cheek Stain, NARS Trio Eyeshadow in Calanque or Stila ‘Living the Life in Laguna’ travel palette
5. Waterproof it!
Waterproof mascara and eye liner is the best way to ensure your makeup won’t smudge or run while you’re pool side! You can even go so far as to use a waterproof eye shadow as well.
Recommended products: L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara, NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliners, Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Eyeshadows
